If you had asked me eight years ago what teaching English was about, I probably would have given you a technical answer about grammar and literary theory. But after spending years in the classroom—moving from the energy of Class 9 and 10 students to the ambitious halls of engineering and business colleges—my perspective has completely shifted. I’ve realized that I’m not just teaching a language; I’m helping students build a bridge to their own potential. In my early days, working with younger students on plays and short stories, I saw how literature could be a mirror. It wasn’t just about passing an exam; it was about watching a 14-year-old suddenly "get" the emotion behind a poem and realize they had the words to express their own feelings. That spark is what hooked me on education. Transitioning into the university space, especially with B.Tech and BBA students, the challenge changed. Here, English is often seen as a "requirement"—a hurdle to clear for a job. My goal has always been to flip that script. Whether we are diving into 'Language, Literature, and Culture' or working on 'Effective Communication,' I want my students to see that being able to articulate an idea clearly is a superpower. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a student walk into my classroom at the start of the semester, hesitant and shy, and walk out months later with the confidence to lead a presentation or argue a complex point in a tutorial. My research in trauma and memory has taught me that everyone has a story and a unique way of processing the world. I try to bring that empathy into my teaching every day. For me, success isn't measured by how well a student can memorize a rule; it’s measured by how much they grow as a person, a thinker, and a communicator. At the end of the day, I’m just a guide helping them find the right words to tell their own story.
