About the Course

Custom Designing

Topics Covered

Custom Design: Becoming a World Class Designer, blends unique research-based content with practical application. Its underlying purpose is to help designers develop global skills to succeed in an integrated world.

Culture’s impact on Design
We look at how six primary cultural institutions impact the way we and our clients perceive design. It then looks at six cultural dimensions developed by scholar Geert Hoffstede as a foundation for understanding the sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle ways culture impacts everything we do, including design.

Design’s impact on Culture
While the first half looks at design through the lens of culture, the second begins with design and explores how design can be adapted to have a greater impact. It evaluates culture in light of basic principles of visual design, as well as usability standards developed by UX specialist Jeff Johnson.
