A good first step by the government would be to introduce a creamy layer concept, where within the existing quota systems, children of those who have availed reservations once will be dis-reserved. This can also be extended to high income families in a particular caste. Then gradually, genuinely needy people will be benefited and then gradually over a period of time, say 20-25 years reservations can be removed looking at the data thoroughly. read less

So the challenges any government which would even dare to attempt abolishing reservations would be so huge that no one would even attempt it. This has to be a gradual process. And education will be an invaluable asset if we are ever going to abolish this system. read less
