In Any Testing process Automation Testing Is Important in that UFT(qtp) and Selenium tools are available. but compare to two tools uft is based on Vb script and Selenium based on Java required core java for Selenium. Vb script is easy and most of level 5 companies are using UFT.

(Ex- Adobe, Wipro) Selenium / QTP / Manual Software Testing Expert (14+ Exp)

Right now selenium is required in most companies being open source and companies dont have to spend a lot on the QTP.. So go for selenium.. the learning curve is more but you will find more opportunities. Rajesh Yadav

POC comes first which tool you want to learn and perfectly matching with performance testing needs of yours: there are majorly two that you can plan for HP LR (paid) or Apache Jmeter (Recommended - open source)
