2D animation is a type of animation created in a two dimensional context instead of a three dimensional context. Many modern animation studios (such as DreamWorks and Pixar) use 3D animation tools to create the characters and environments for their movies, sculpting them out of thousands of tiny digital polygons and animating them with computer code like puppets on strings. 2D animation doesn’t employ any fancy digital models or virtual spaces, opting for a more straightforward approach: simply drawing the frames of each scene and letting our brain fill in the rest. have you watched ever a famous show Motu Patlu ki Jodi (3d animation) and Micky mouse show ( 2d animation). The big dIfference is depth in animation. read less

But when we give the 3rd dimension, viewers expect you to relate to scale, physics of motion among other things. The main raw material for 3D is CG (computer generated) in software, and clay animation. I hope I've made it clear enough. The most obvious answer would be that 2D animations are "flat", while 3D animations can be rotated and flipped on screen to get an overall 3-dimensional view of the scene or character. Best example would be Disney's 2D animation movies like 'Cinderella' and 'Beauty and the Beast', or the 'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender Series'. Whereas 3D movies would include examples from Pixar's movies, 'Toy Story' and 'Wall-E', or shows like 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and 'Transformers Prime'. If you are talking about the difference between making 2D and 3D animations, however, that's an even longer answer! For one thing, in 2D animation, everything from shadow to light to the different views (i.e., front, back, profile, and diagonal) of a character has to be drawn into (or loaded into) the animation software by the creator. In 3D animation software, anything you create would already have a 3D view and your job (the creator's) would be mainly to make sure that the entire character or object looks as it is supposed to. Plus, there are settings that will allow you to set the lighting and shadow in the scene which the computer will automatically calculate at each frame. But be warned that doing this is not as easy as it sounds. Foor one, you can't just draw on designs like you would in 2D animation, but have to define textures (surface area designs) to "apply" to the models you've created. And then you'll have to adjust the light and the shadow so that it best brings out your surroundings and models. Keep i mind though, that this is merely the tip of the iceberg. Once you start working on 2D and 3D animation, there will be a whole lot more to learn, and plenty of differences (and similarities) between the two. read less

3D (Three Dimensional ) is more real life and gives you 360 degree view i like the ones you can see in animation movies. 2d (Two dimensional) is flat.
