Tution can never be termed as a "necessity". If you think, you are getting concepts easily just through the books and you have enough time to make notes by yourself along with the study, YOU DON'T NEED A TUTUION. But in case, you have a busy schedule and lesser time for all this, you must go for a tution.
In your case : As you said that you are away from studies for so long, it might be difficult for you to get that same focus and motivation as you had earlier. So, tution can help you in building that again. Just go through the syllabus once, and then chose what is right.
