I am from IIT teaching for past 22 years. I insist on fundamental principle and then application part of it. I even have web portal for conducting on lines tests, giving short notes and assignments. For boards it is important to write in as per the details required by various boards. I am particularly NOT a good tutor for below average students. The students should have liking for the subject and that I try to develop in them.
Teaching for last so many years I have come across various achievements of my students, but is not mine alone, I gave the way and they worked at it. So for keen students, (does not mean SERIOUS) I gave them the maximum.
Again due to long teaching experience I developed and found short cut techniques which help student to tackle the problems quickly and easily.
In competitions it is important to note that about 80% syllabus with 70% accuracy will get you admission comfortably. SO in competition I insist on strong topics making too strong and give less stress on weak topics.
