As far as I can tell, it's at least partly because the strengths and weaknesses of C++ do not match with priorities of most web applications.

C++ is generally not used in web development for several reasons: ### 1. **Complexity**: - **Language Complexity**: C++ is more complex than many other web development languages, requiring more boilerplate code and intricate memory management, which can slow down development. ### 2. **Development Speed**: - **Slower Development Cycle**: The extensive features of C++, such as manual memory management, increase development time compared to higher-level languages designed for rapid web development. ### 3. **Server-Side Usage**: - **Limited Framework Support**: While C++ can be used for server-side development, it lacks the robust frameworks (like Node.js, Django, or Ruby on Rails) that simplify web application development in languages like JavaScript, Python, or Ruby. ### 4. **Resource Management**: - **Heavy Resource Usage**: C++ applications can be more resource-intensive, making them less ideal for handling multiple simultaneous web requests compared to lightweight languages optimized for web environments. ### 5. **Web Ecosystem**: - **Lack of Web-Specific Features**: C++ lacks built-in libraries and tools for common web development tasks (like handling HTTP requests, routing, or templating) that are readily available in other languages. ### 6. **Community and Trends**: - **Popularity of Other Languages**: The web development community predominantly favors languages like JavaScript, Python, and PHP, which have vast ecosystems, community support, and resources tailored for web development. ### Conclusion: While C++ can technically be used in web development (particularly for high-performance applications), its complexity, slower development cycle, and lack of specialized frameworks make it less practical compared to other languages that are specifically designed for web development. read less
