I am a singer songwriter and have been playing guitar for the past 13 years, i always liked to sing and because of which the need for a musical accompaniment had always been felt, hence i started playing the instrument, i learnt from guitar lesson books that one could find at the guitar shops, also a lot from the Internet as well but that came only later on, once i felt confident with the way my fingers could manage pressing down on the strings as instructed in the books and in the way my hands could manage to move on the fret board and the other to strike the strings at the right time, initially like any new thing does, it seemed like too much to handle but slowly one by one things fell into place, one day i could strike a string the next day i could press down on the string and strike it and then one day i learnt to strum all the 6 strings and also hold down the strings on the fret board and not only that but also switch from one way of holding down on the strings to another way, and then one day i could be in rhythm, and one day i could sing and play, and one day put music to words i write. It has been a process i have enjoyed, and wanting to sing has carried it forward faster because that helped me look up on the Internet for songs i have liked and wished to sing and play, and continually playing songs with my friends who play other instruments has only made it more exciting an activity.
So learning to play the guitar is not much if you apply yourself, just have fun while.
