Why does the violin have 4 strings?

4 strings are enough to play songs. There are 5 string violins also in Carnatic music. But for a beginner ,,,,moving bow on strings becomes difficult if it is 5 strings. 4 strings are enough to play songs. There are 5 string violins also in Carnatic music. But for a beginner ,,,,moving bow on strings becomes difficult if it is 5 strings. If there are less than 4 strings we have to move our left hand fingers till the end of violin finger board. Lesser number of strings,,,, more we have to move Left hand on finger board. More number of strings, our left hand will be in less stressed. read less
