The Britishers initially came to India for trading (sole purpose) and never thought of ruling India for such a prolonged duration. This fact can be confirmed by their decisions related to the Land Revenue System and Cash Crops Policy. Soon they found a lot of resources in India which can be extracted in the Industrial Revolution to earn huge profits. Bengal was the first point of attack by English East India Company, and it also helped them gain their rule over entire India. While handling the conquest and settling down the disputes, it was essential to understand that the local communal riots can create chaos in their reign. Hence, they thought of staying and ruling in India by creating communal division. The partition of Bengal was the result of the same.
