A Career counsellor is someone who guides students in their journey of education, work and other aspects of life. They are experts in the education sector that guide both school and college students to make the right career moves. They use advanced and scientifically proven tools for psychometric assessments to understand a student's personality, behaviour, choices, interests, skills and abilities. These are vital parameters for a perfect career choice for a student.

Are you confused about picking the right career? Then talk to a career counsellor, sit for a career test and get a detailed report defining your matching career paths. Any student can easily step on to a wrong career path if no career counsellor is involved and may, later on, regret his negligence and poor professional performance. It happens because students in their young age may tend to choose a wrong career path by getting influenced by their close friends/relatives, parental pressures and by imagining something in their mind. It is why it is advisable to connect and seek help from a career counsellor to sort out any issue regarding your career. They can offer the most relevant information for current jobs and their scopes. Apart from these, they help students to discover their true potential. One can be more confident and well informed to make career decisions after career counselling/assessment.
More importantly, based on these exclusive factors, one can quickly eliminate wrong career choices while finding out the most suitable ones. Taking career-related decisions is not comfortable in India, given the Indian study system. Apart from children's own career choices, encouragement of their parents, their financial backgrounds, etc. are also significant factors here. Career counsellors can effortlessly manage the thoughts of both the parties by offering unbiased information about different fields of career. They ask you about your future vision and aim to achieve in your life and then draft the most effective path through career test and personalized one-one discussion. One should communicate with them to explore the right streams in schools and colleges to achieve great heights in the career.
Who can Opt for career counselling?
Students must undergo career counselling to avoid any situations related to a doubtful career. By doing so, the number of years/money invested will not get wasted as well. Following are some situations when you can reach out to a career counsellor. Students at these stages of their professional path can go for career counselling for a great future ahead.
a) 7th-grade students looking to select a subject for higher schooling in IB board
b) 10th-grade students looking for a suitable stream/career planning for higher teaching
c) 12th grade passed students unsure of which academic stream to choose for their career stream
d) 12th grade passed students searching for a right college
e) 12th grade passed students trying to find about different routes to their chosen career
f) College students /graduation unsure about their post-graduation career choices
g) College students who left the commencement in between due to various reasons and looking for alternate career choices
Every student wants to follow a successful career path which provides them with a satisfactory life and respectful stature in the society. However, lack of proper guidance and counselling can yield contradictory results. So go for a career counselling that offers students great insights into their personality, career choices and current job market opportunities.
Benefits of career counselling:
1. Gain confidence & clarity about all your goals, strengths, skills and abilities
2. Get clarity about all the opportunities (Current market demands, jobs and their scopes in future)
3. Get to select the most desirable career path (best-fit careers based on skills and interests)
4. Expect a defined & planned route of career

Kindly invest your time in career assessment /counselling and notice exponential career growth in your life.

GOAL: As many of my students/clients have realised, it is the final goal of a student/person is that single point which drives a person to work towards it. Ironically, most of us including me had trouble in setting up a goal for life. So the very essence of career counselling is setting or assessing your goal for a student or at least help towards setting up a final goal. So always, I ask my student first question: Do you have a purpose?

Believe me or not, almost 98% of them said No. That's not surprising. Our education system is not designed to address this vital aspect of life/career. So when I counsel, my priority would be to help you understand the importance of setting up a goal.

DREAM: Many students get confused with a vision in life and goal of life. Let me tell you that both of them have a significant difference. While you can dream of reaching any great heights, goals are to be very practical and achievable. I can say dream helps to set a goal though.

CULTURE AND HERITAGE:  I am very sure that most of us never consider this aspect while planning a career. So in this modern world, we set the goals which never inherits good values from our culture. Thus when achieve most of us are isolated from our families, and we become part of lost culture and values.

MONEY Vs. PROFESSIONAL SATISFACTION: Have any of your counsellors asked you if you are given to set priority between money and satisfaction, I bet you would say money is number one. But when I counsel, I make sure that I explain the outcome of both above aspects. Many of my students had wondered when I said satisfaction is more than money, and I had a tough time to explain to them about this. What do you think? You may comment on this critical aspect.

INDIA Vs ABROAD: If I ask you this question, I am sure many of you would say abroad. Reasons are visible, that you love to enjoy life in a foreign country and make a considerable amount of money. Be informed. You are losing many many essential aspects of life, not only yours but your next generation. So I make sure that, I ask each person I counsel, why one has craziness for a foreign country.

Once above basics of career planning are addressed it becomes easy for a student or a working profession to take planning to next step.

Timely and proper education consultation and career counselling can help an individual in many ways. Some key advantages are as below:

1. Self-awareness: When you consult an expert, the discussion leads to improved awareness about your purpose, desires, strengths and liking etc.

2. Broadened awareness of options: An expert would be typically aware of much broader options, not only in your chosen field but also in relevant other options. This just opens multiple new doors for opportunities.

3. Market trends: Again, experts are aware of the current and future market trends related to a choice of study, its application, and respective future job or earning potential.

4. Unbiased strengths mapping: An expert can also play the role of an unbiased assessor to understand your present strengths, skills and weigh them to assess if they would be a good match for you to follow. We tend to go with our friends and families advise, which at times can be clouded by their perceptions about you. But a 3rd person's viewpoint can bring in more clarity and confidence in your overall decision-making process.

5. Structured planning: A counsellor can act as a ready reckoner of information related to courses, skills, colleges, costs and even combinations of studies. You can then develop a short to a long-term plan to follow.

6. Savings in time and money: Most students and young professionals end up following the herd - either their friends, classmates or at times the direction from their parents. Many a time, they either become less or at times completely uninterested in their selected courses. I have examples where someone who was good in math, ended up taking MBBS as the course of study, because both the parents were doctors. It was sad to note her interest in Data Analytics and statistics was completely not considered. After wasting 2 years, a lot of money and a lot of social embarrassment, she has now changed her field of study. The main outcome is that she is happy and already on a path to accelerated success.

7. Accelerated Success: The last point will be well understood by an analogy. We all use Google Maps while driving, at times, even when we know the route. Why? Well, one of the advantages is to ensure that the route is still available and not closed for any repair works, or VIP movement etc., the other is to deal with the real-time traffic situation. We know that we can rely on Google Maps will immediately give us options of alternate routes, if our chosen route is not valid or make us late. Consulting an expert gives you the same power of choices, reliability and real-time direction so that you can reach your goals faster.

This space and time are limited to cover many other aspects. Happy to answer any specific concern or inhibition.

All the best!

Coach Naval

Professional resumes are always recommended for any candidates who look for their growth and development in the future. Not many are even bothered or aware of how a standard resume must look like, due to which they miss many wonderful opportunities coming in their way. Recruiters get a first-time impression from the candidate if their resume looks elegant with all details because this very document reflects the overall credibility and personality of the person.

A resume must contain typical formate having a decent template, font style, necessary keywords, headings & subheading if required, bullets, enough gaps and without grammatical mistakes. It shall contain objectives, experience, goals & passion with a proper address & other contact details. There shall not be any repetitions of what has already been described and always try to be much precise on what you want to say. A standard resume can have 1-3 pages max. As per your level of experience. Resumes will look different for a fresher to mid level managers and then to a highly experienced and top-level senior managers. One must not write anything silly that give you an impression of a stupid or ignorant person and try to use a classical language pattern. The document shall end up with a self-declaration with date, place and signature on one side which is normally expected to be filled in front of the interviewer. The contents of the resume shall be in such a way that the same can be explained in detail to the person at the time of face to face session during the interview.
