There are different tools provides docker registry, and in this tutorial, we want to use Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager as our docker registry, and we will upload our images in there.

I am using the CentOS7 server in google cloud to install Nexus. You may need to change the script based on your requirements. Also as a pre-requisite this script needs SELinux and FIREWALL need to be disabled, In case if you want to run along with those, then you need to modify the scripts as the requirement.

1. Install Nexus Repository.

Run the following command to install Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager, and it starts the service automatically.

Note: Ensure you run the script as root user.

# curl -s https://raw.githubusercontent.com/linuxautomations/nexus/master/install.sh | bash

You can view the output as follows.

2. Open the repository over browser with 8081 default port of Nexus.

You can view the web portal of Nexus as follows.

3. Next, navigate as follows and create the repository.

Sign In -> Username & Password (Default username & password : admin / admin123 )

Then click on Settings as shown in the below image.

Then click on Repositories in the left pane and then click on create the repository and then select docker (hosted).

And fill in the details as follows.

4. Let's try to login to nexus repository from docker node.

Add the following configuration to docker.

# cat /etc/docker/daemon.json
{
"insecure-registries" : ["nexus:9001"]
}
# systemctl restart docker
#
You might be execpected the following output.

5. Finally, create an image and push to nexus repo and verify the repository.

# docker tag centos nexus:9001/centos
# docker push nexus:9001/centos
The push refers to a repository [nexus:9001/centos]

What is the future prospect of a career in MS SQL Server?

You need to get more specific. Are you talking about being a DBA, designing databases, or getting a job with Microsoft on the SQL Server team? However, I don’t think that any of these options would be a career limiting decision. Also, I don’t see any reason to assume that SQL Server is going away any time soon. Here are some specifics on these three choices:

DBA: SQL Server DBAs certainly do require some very product specific knowledge, but much of the knowledge of managing one Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) will transfer to other RDBMS products (Oracle, Sybase, etc.).

Designing databases: If you are designing relational database schemas (writing DDL) then a good 95% of your knowledge would be transferable to other databases (I’ve worked with at least a dozen different RDBMS products over my career and as the SQL DDL and DML standards improve, the more similar the products get to one another).

Working at Microsoft on SS: The knowledge that you gain while working on this product will obviously be mostly general programming experience. And since Microsoft is a big company if SQL Server was killed there would undoubtedly be a large number of other positions you could move into.

MS SQL Server DBA Training:

Overview:

Database Administrators (DBAs) are responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of computerized databases in today’s organizations. The role also includes architecting, building and scaling databases for future data growth and capacity. They are also responsible for security, performance and availability of data to users and customers. .

All the above tasks are performed with the help of a Database Management System (DBMS) and among the most widely used DBMS across the world today is the Microsoft SQL Server Data Platform.

Salaries and Job Growth:

DBAs play an important and responsible role in every company’s Information Technology (IT) department. DBAs are also very well paid and the average annual salary is more than $100,000 in the USA.

If you want to understand cloud technology basics, I would recommend that you take the Rackspace CloudU certification. This does not cost any money and it will lay the foundation of cloud technology and then deliver a vendor neutral certificate. There are 10 modules, all self paced followed by a final exam. You have to score 80% in each module and the final exam to get your certificate. I did it a couple of days ago. Once you have your foundation, then you have to decide whether to go for a vendor neutral course or to go for AWS or Azure - both and top of the line. Comptia has vendor neutral cloud certs as does CSA. Before you spend money on teachers (like me) and certs, understand the fundamentals as given in CloudU. Python will always be useful to you - particularly if you want to get into serverless architecture like AWS Lambda. Good luck, Kishore. read less
