The first and foremost thing is not to panic once the last section begins. Second, make sure that you have read the questions well before the audio starts to play. It is also essential to highlight and deeply understand the exact meaning of each option. The idea is that when the listening is going on, then you do not end up re-reading the answer choices and try to match the answers by way of matching some words which are being used in the listening audio as a trap. IELTS is known for using this trap, and a lot of Indian test-takers fall into it.
In my class, I focus on delivering strategies and ample practise questions to help the test-takers eliminate error chances.

Speaking And Writing: Read Aloud.

You are presented with a written text which could be of 3 to 4 lines (varies). You have 30-40 seconds to prepare, depending on the length of the passage. Here are some tips to score full marks on this question type:

  • You have 30-40 seconds to look at the text before the microphone opens, so use this time to break the text up into meaningful chunks, using the punctuation as a guide. This will show you the places where you can make a tiny pause and alter your intonation – going up when you begin reading a chunk and falling a little when you end a chunk.
  • Use punctuation to help you decide where to pause when you read.
  • Using appropriate pausing helps you to read more fluently and give the full meaning of the text. This will improve your score.
  • You hear a short tone. After the tone, start speaking immediately. Do not start speaking before the microphone opens because your voice will not be recorded.
  • You should speak clearly. There is no need to rush.
  • Finish speaking before the progress bar reaches the end. The word “Recording” changes to “Completed”.
  • You are only able to record your response once.
  • Stress the words that carry important information
  • When you read the text, stress the words that help to convey meaning, by reading them in a slightly louder voice and adding emphasis to key syllables. Also use rising and falling intonation patterns to show how the ideas are linked or are coming to an end.
  • To make sure, you get full marks -
  • Content: Your response should include all the words in the reading text and only these words. Content is scored by counting the number of correct words in your response. Replacements insertions and omissions of words will negatively affect your score.
  • Fluency is scored by determining if your rhythm, phrasing and stress are smooth. The best responses are spoken at a constant and natural rate of speech with appropriate phrasing. Hesitations, repetitions and false starts will negatively affect your score.
  • Pronunciation is scored by determining if your speech is easily understandable to most regular speakers of the language.

Hi Ashish,

Although your 12th percentage is lower than the other degree, it is not low enough to create a hindrance to your IIMs Aspiration. You should keep in mind the following points-

1. Give your best in CAT exams because the percentile will decide which IIM you will be called to.

2. Practice your SOP well; this is a vital deciding factor.

3. Prepare well for the interview.

IIMS have various factors on which the admits are decided, and this will certainly not create a hindrance unless you underperform in any of the above tests.

Good luck!

All you need to do is not focus so much on the exam, but you need to deliver on the language. If you look at it in terms of the score you need to achieve, anxiety will creep in. Rather, please think of the exam as a stage to flaunt your language skills and give it your best shot!

How to prove if points are Collinear in coordinate geometry?

 Collinear points definition:

  • Three or more points that lie on a same straight line are called collinear points.
  • Consider a straight line L in the above Cartesian coordinate plane formed by x axis and y axis.
  • This straight line L is passing through three points A, B and C whose coordinates are (2, 4), (4, 6) and (6, 8) respectively.
  • {We may also say, alternatively, that the three points A (2, 4), B (4, 6) and C (6, 8)are lying on a same straight line L}
  • Three or more points which lie on a same straight line are called collinear points.

How to find if three points are collinear?:

  • There are two methods to find if three points are collinear.
  • One is slope formula method and the other is area of triangle method.
  • Slope formula method to find that points are collinear.
  • Three or more points are collinear, if slope of any two pairs of points is same.
  • With three points A, B and C, three pairs of points can be formed, they are: AB, BC and AC.
  • If Slope of AB = slope of BC = slope of AC, then A, B and C are collinear points.

Example

Show that the three points A (2, 4), B (4, 6) and C (6, 8) are collinear.

Solution:

  • If the three points A (2, 4), B (4, 6) and C (6, 8) are collinear, then
  • slopes of any two pairs of points will be equal.
  • Now, apply slope formula to find the slopes of the respective pairs of points:
  • Slope of AB = (6 – 4)/ (4 – 2) = 1,
  • Slope of BC = (8 – 6)/ (6 – 4) = 1, and
  • Slope of AC = (8 – 4) /(6 – 2) = 1
  • Since slopes of any two pairs out of three pairs of points are same, this proves that A, B and C are collinear points.
  • Area of triangle to find if three points are collinear.
  • Three points are collinear if the value of area of triangle formed by the three points is zero.
  • Apply the coordinates of the given three points in the area of triangle formula. If the result for area is zero, then the given points are said to be collinear.
  • First of all, recall the formula for area of a triangle formed by three points.

It is

In the formula above, the two vertical bars enclosing the variables represent a determinant.

Let us apply the coordinates of the above three points A, B and C in the determinant formula above for area of a triangle to check if the answer is zero.

Since the result for area of triangle is zero, therefore A (2, 4), B (4, 6) and C (6, 8) are collinear points.
