Teaching Experience in detail in MBBS & Medical Tuition
After completing my fellowship, I worked as Medical Officer (Glaucoma Services) at Bejan Singh Eye Hospital, Nagercoil for 3 years. I was an Assistant Professor at their Optometry college (affiliated to MGR University), taking classes for and as an examiner for BSc Optometry students. I was also mentoring MBBS students in Ophthalmology at home during this time. After moving to Trivandrum, me and a team of doctors started our own clinic (Kivi Medical Centre). For the past 3 years, I have been tutoring undergraduate MBBS students in Ophthalmology in Trivandrum. We are a team of doctors, all of whom are currently practicing in Trivandrum, who share a common interest in teaching. We offer tuition in all subjects of the MBBS course (first year to final year). All classes will be held at Conference hall, Kivi Medical Centre, Tutors lane, Statue, Trivandrum We offer 3 types of courses: o Long term course (6-8 months, 1-2 classes per week depending on students convenience) o Crash course (30-45 days, daily classes) o Topic wise tuition (Teaching a particular topic in any subject, Number of classes will depend on the topic) Classes will be theory exam oriented (KUHS pattern), stress being given to previously asked questions The course will include seminar style classes where the student is asked to prepare a topic beforehand and will be asked to present it. There will be periodical assessments (Monthly for long term course and over the last 2 weeks for crash course) Stress on the clinical significance/ clinical application of a concept. (this is sometimes forgotten when teaching the basic sciences in 1st and 2nd year) Most importantly, the course includes tips on exam preparation: o How to write different types of answers (essays, short essay, brief note, answer in one sentence, differentiate, clinical questions, diagram questions) o Time management during the examination so that every question is attempted. o Order of answering the question paper (eg. should you finish the essay in the beginning or leave it for the end?) o Which diagrams to learn and when to draw them o Use of flow charts in answers. Summarizing our course: o WHAT to study for the exam (stress on high yield topics which have been repeatedly asked in the exam) o HOW to study so that you can write the answer that will fetch you maximum marks o WHEN to stop writing answer and start writing the next one (time management) o WHICH topics to spend time on and which topics need only a brief reading.
