First you need a Demat account for stock deliveries. They charge 330/- every year as AMC. you can start with min 5000/- for a decent investment.

It depends on the stock into which you are investing. In a blue chip, you may need a couple of ten thousands or if it is in a penny stock, may be a thousand or sometimes even less. it depends on you what amount you intend to invest.

You can start any amount you have. Actually amount of invetsment depends upon the prevailing market rate of choosen stock multiplied by quantity. Suppose you have choosen to buy one share of RELIANCE today , you have to invest 985 (todays price) * 1=985+ rates&taxes. it will be around 990.
