Hi Avinash In general there are the following costs associated with trading stocks: 1. Brokerage - This is broker specific. With different brokers, you will get different brokerage fees 2. Securities Transaction Tax - This is decided by government and is standard 3. Transaction or turnover charges - There is a basic charge from the exchange. Most of the broking firms charge same as the exchange or slightly above. However, for large volume, this can form a significant portion and you should watch out for this in your statements 4. Service tax - The current rate is 14.5% (Includes 0.5% swach bharat cess) 5. SEBI Charges - Standard at Rs. 20/Crore 6. Stamp duty - This depends on the state that you are trading in Once should always consider all the charges before calculating the actual returns earned. I hope I have answered your question. Yes, there is a commission charged by the broker. In addition there are other taxes levied by the government in addition to turnover charges levied by the exchange.
