Good corporate leaders take care of themselves while taking care of the group. They maintain what makes then unique while being conscious of the needs of the collective. They don’t acquiesce to the group and lose their personal identity, nor do they focus on their individuality to the point of suffering from human detachment. It is the same in a family- we need to celebrate our individual skills and talents yet be mindful that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Good corporate leaders understand that leaders and followers do leadership together. Someone may be directing the action but they need engaged supporters. Leaders never snuff outside contributions and followers never submit to the point of being used. Like in a corporation followers and leaders in a family work best together when they share a set of values and are drawn to serve a higher purpose. Good corporate leaders balance their head and their heart and this is especially important in how a family functions. They seek logic yet are motivated by ideals. They follow their hearts yet take their heads with them. Good leaders, at home or at the office, understand that it is possible to know without knowing why and accept that. read less
