Yes, Selenium will be a good in automation as a career. But just don't think only about selenium think about how can i learn to provide automated solutions to any kind of application or system. 1. WebApplications 2. Mobile apps 3. Rest or Soap API 4. Desktop application 5. Flex application 6. angulaJS application 7. Silver light application 7 8. Pentration testing. 9. Security testing. So I suggest to learn selenium but side by side don't restrict yourself to just Selenium, keep updating yourself as much as you can.Because project is dynamic ,client requirements are dynamic you never know what comes your way.What suites to your project. If one fine day your manager says we have a list of 500 rest API and client want to automate them, then Selenium will not work but if you do progressive learning you can never say NO to anything. Summary:- Selenium is an awesome tool it has earned a lot of respect for testers because earlier QTP was licenced tool so all testers cannot use it due to budget limitations but after opensource emerged so nicely we have anything for ourself to prove. Selenium, Appium,Protractor,Jmeter,Galen,Rest Assured, ngWebDriver are some of great opensource tools or libraries you can learn. read less

Yes. Definitely. At least for another 3 years it will be in booming. But apart selenium you have to be good in API testing(REST API), programming in Python, perl, Security Testing.

If you want to make career in Automation Testing field, then Selenium is the best option for you. As you know it is open source, so it is ready to start with your will power and enough practice. That's it.
