There are not too many implementations as far as I know .CPython : the implementation on Python Programming Language . This is python interpreter implemented in C, and the most used.There are a few other distributions of CPython specific to job fields (specially Data Analysis), but they are just convenience distributions where user is saved from installing libraries. Some of such distributions which come to mind are: Anaconda (by continuum analytics), Enthought Python (by Enthought) , Pythonxy etc.The other most important implementation. Python JIT compiler, which is written in Python itself (actually a subset of Python which directly compiles).Also there is Jython The Jython Project , which is Python on top of JVM. In this , Python code compiles to Java object code, and runs on Java interpreter.Another version is Ironpython , where Python compiles to Microsoft CLR. read less
