In my opinion, any subject should only be learnt only when the reason for learning that subject is clear.
A teacher's role is to explain clearly the need of the subject and then to ease the toughness(concept) of the subject to such level that student is able to grasp it and apply it in questions and also in REAL LIFE. When we relate what we studies to our real life experience then we build the confidence on our knowledge base.
Also instructions should be given to student on good study material, it is an important additional job of a teacher. A good study material always challenges the thinking process.
