Well! Salman good question. There could be several reasons for a selfish behaviour at the conscious level. However, the prime unconscious motive to behave mean or selfish is SURVIVAL. Our behaviour is controlled by our unconscious brain which is not analytical in nature and can not differentiate between good or bad. Its prime job is to protect us and help us surviving. And when this motive is dominant and the value system and moral standards are low. A selfish motive takes over and people act on it. read less

Everyone is selfish at one or the other level.. however it depends what is the percentage of selfishness... till the level selfishness is essential for basic survival and not harming anyone surrounding us, it's fine to be but crossing that level makes difference in other's lives as well as our own.. so do not think too much about anyone's specific behavior.. just keep moving on in life with happiness.. it we ourselves who make us happy not others' behavior..
