Suitability for children The piano is simpler at the beginning and gives quicker gratification, so it's often recommended as the first instrument for children. Suitability for performance The guitar is easier to travel with and better for performance purposes. Suitability for learning music theory The piano is better for learning notes and music theory because everything is laid out in front of you. Difficulty Both instruments require years of practice to master, and high levels of dexterity are required for complex chords and runs. read less
