If you are creating a social networking site, everyone will expect you to be able to expand it and fix it at your will. Learn the basics, then more advanced stuff, then even more advanced, until you understand all you're using. If you don't do that, the network is not yours at all. read less

if you want custom functionality on your social site then it is ok. otherwise if you are going to create basic social site then no need to change it
