Both are connected, Phonetics is the larger umbrella. It is the FIELD OF STUDY about how we produce sound and perceive it. Whereas Phonics is a METHOD OF TEACHING people how to read and write words.

Phonics is a method of learning to read English by developing an awareness of the variety of sounds that letters represent in different positions and combinations.Phonetics is the study of speech sounds in a language and is focused purely on pronunciation.
