Use handmade paper like fabriano 100 gsm or 200gsm, you can also use canson 250 gsm.

There are two main grades of watercolor paper: artists' quality and students' quality. Artists' quality, sometimes known as archival paper, is acid-free and designed to endure. Papers that aren't acid-free will become yellow and brittle over time. If you're a beginner or just practicing, students' quality paper is fine but the paint won't perform as well and don't expect your painting to stand up to the test of time. read less

There are so many handmade paper available in the market. Local made are cheap for practice. However you can use branded papers like canson, dalor rowney as well. 200 GSM are good enough.

Best would be rough press paper. Or any 300 gsm to 600 gsm paper.. which absorbs water and gives texture.
