This course gives an overview of MATLAB that will help the student get started. On the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to
- use MATLAB to perform mathematical calculations,
- use MATLAB to define & manipulate scalars, vectors, & matrices,
- find and use pre-defined functions in MATLAB,
- effectively use the in-built help to accelerate the pace of learning, and
- use MATLAB to visualize data by producing and annotating plots.
The course will provide in-class examples, and after-class exercises and case studies / projects to help enhance the participants' understanding of MATLAB.

- MATLAB User Interface Layout.
Basic components of MATLAB; MATLAB as a calculator; Operators and Operator Precedence; Pre-defined Functions - Working with Variables.
Creating and Manipulating Variables; Accessing and Manipulating Elements in a Matrix; Computations with Matrices. - Visualizing Data.
Basic plotting commands; Customizing plots; 2-D and 3-D plots. - A brief tour of Toolboxes.
Additional functionality; Specialized applications/subjects. - Case Studies.
