The Screenwriting Course at C.A.F.E. is designed to take an idea from raw concept to a production-ready short film script. It is a craft-driven program that emphasizes structure, clarity, and storytelling with emotional weight and cinematic language.
Over three months, students will learn the fundamentals of story structure, character arcs, conflict, dialogue, formatting, and revision. Through workshops, readings, and feedback sessions, they will draft and refine an original short film script, which may be selected for production by C.A.F.E. direction students.
This course is for aspiring screenwriters, playwrights, novelists, or storytellers of any kind who want to learn how to write for the screen. No prior experience is required, but passion for storytelling and a commitment to rewriting is essential.
Students are expected to attend all sessions, meet deadlines, and actively engage in peer reviews and mentor feedback. Collaboration with directors and actors is encouraged to better understand performance and production needs. The final submission is a complete, polished script ready for shooting — one that could be part of a larger career portfolio or debut project.
By the end of the course, students will understand not just what a good script is — but how to build one.
