PART 1 - Acrylic painting Foundations & Technique Development

This live, beginner-friendly class is designed to build a strong technical foundation in acrylic painting. Instead of simply following a painting tutorial, you’ll understand how acrylic behaves and learn how to control the medium through structured demonstrations and guided exercises.

In this class, you’ll learn:

• Acrylic fundamentals — paint composition, drying behaviour, opacity, transparency and working properties
• Materials & tools — paint types, brushes, surfaces, palettes and essential workspace setup
• Paint control — consistency, dilution, brush loading, pressure, angle and paint release
• Acrylic mediums — when and why to use glazing, gel, matte, gloss and slow-drying mediums
• Colour theory — hue, value, saturation, temperature and colour relationships
• Colour mixing — creating secondary, tertiary, muted and neutral colours while avoiding muddy mixtures
• Brush techniques — washes, blending, layering, dry brushing, scumbling, stippling and directional strokes
• Value & form — understanding light, shadow, highlights, reflected light and cast shadows
• Edges & texture — creating hard, soft, lost and found edges and adapting brushwork to different surfaces
• Practical exercises — apply each concept through guided studies rather than learning only through theory
