What is arithmetic progression in 10th class?
The Arithmetic Progression is the simplest and most widely used sequence in maths. Definition 1: A sequence in mathematics where the difference between two consecutive terms is always constant is called an Arithmetic Progression (AP).
Thus, the standard form of the arithmetic progression is given by the formula, a, a + d, a + 2d, a + 3d, a + 4d, …. Now, consider the infinite arithmetic progression 2, 5, 8, 11, 14…. Since the difference between two consecutive terms is constant (i.e., 3), the given progression is an arithmetic progression.
Arithmetic progression formula for nth term: an = a + (n - 1) d, where 'a' depicts the constant term, 'n' is the number of terms and 'd' is the common difference of the AP.
