Latin for Beginners

Ever wondered what Harry Potter spells mean? Or why Robbie Williams in The Dead Poets' Society says "Carpe diem"? Or why we use the phrase "et cetera (etc.)"? This is your chance to learn the Latin language to answer those questions for yourself!

This course is aimed at beginners, who are not required to have any prior of the language to begin. You will learn the language through reading actual Latin text, while being supplemented with grammar explanation. The aim of the course is to make the learning journey as interesting and fun as possible. The text that will be used is Lingua Latina: Familia Romana, one that has been tried and tested for over seven decades, and whose success is well documented.

So please join me, and let's journey to the ancient past together, meeting authors like Caesar and Ovid, while unravelling the influence that Latin has had on the English language and modern culture.
