She is an Indian Bharatnatyam dancer is the artistic director of her company, kRtyaVed, Academy for Performing Arts, an institute for imparting training in dance, music, drama and choreography in the city of Bangalore.

Her primary training and rigorous practice has been under her parents, Guru Pt Venugopal Pillai & Guru Smt. Jayshree Pillai from the age of 6. Shrruti has been awarded the Kala Gurjari Award for young talents and Tarang Padma Award in the field of classical dance. She went on to intensify her training by learning contemporary under the mentorship of Eva Mueller, a renowned teacher in Innsbruck, Austria.

She is very passionate about teaching Bharatanatyam. She has structured a diploma course for students who want to take up dance as their career, which involves extensive training in Bharatnatyam dance, theory and yoga.

She has also been researching in using her contemporary knowledge in choreographing various ballets while still keeping her roots grounded in bharatnatyam. She started choreographing at a very young age in school, where many of her choreographies have won the 1st prizes in inter school competitions. She has also choreographed various dance dramas in her college. She is now studying the 108 karanas and has choreographed a few numbers like "Shambho", "Panchabhootam", "Dancing for the Gods" etc.
