I teach both beginner and advanced students, aged five years and above. The training begins with practising swaras and systematic voice grooming, focusing on building flexibility and control. At this stage, special emphasis is given to the technical aspects of voice projection and throwing, which form the foundation of strong vocal performance.
Â
Once the voice is prepared, I introduce ragas, guiding students to sing with the support of the tanpura to develop a deep sense of pitch and tonal awareness. During raga practice, students are trained to create bistar, sargam, taan, and bol-baant patterns spontaneously, encouraging creativity along with technical precision.
Â
After learning several ragas, the focus shifts to advanced voice modulation and intensive vocal grooming, preparing students to confidently present this art form on stage and in front of an audience.
Â
In the initial learning phase, students are encouraged to practise with a harmonium, piano, or any pitch-supporting instrument to develop accuracy in sur. With progress, they gradually transition to practising with a manual or electronic tanpura, strengthening their independence and musical depth.
