This master class is specially for 3rd year MBBS students. I will deal with Acute suppurative otitis media (ASOM) elaborately in detail with full conceptual explanation. This will make students to understand and assimilate the concepts easily!
We know that acute suppurative otitis media (ASOM) is an important topic which would be asked in the examination as well as in clinical examination (during viva session). As a result, it's important to discuss about it's definition, pathophysiology, etiology, clinical features, investigations and treatment of choice. Also, we will touch upon the complications that would occur in patients who are not adequately treated.
ASOM stands for "acute suppurative otitis media" which is basically the infection of middle ear that develops within 2-3 days. Initially, the patient would have had sore throat cause by probably Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. After 2-3 days of throat infection, the bacteria travels via eustachian tube and reaches middle ear cavity. This leads to infection of middle ear called as acute suppurative otitis media (ASOM).
To learn more about this infection and it's management, join me to enjoy the learning experience. Thanks a lot!
