English Language and Communication Skills is a comprehensive course for middle-school students (age 10-13 years). This ongoing course is designed to act as a supplement for in-school English language curriculum, in helping students develop comfort and confidence in English Language and different aspects of communication including speaking and writing. Starting with phonics, grammar, reading & comprehension, through this course students would progressively develop higher order skills like public speaking story telling & creative writing.

This course includes 2 weekly classes of 60 mins each and covers FOUR broad modules : Reading and Comprehension, Grammar & Vocabulary, Writing skills and Speaking Skills.

What will be covered

Reading & comprehension : Analyzing text structure, tonality and mood, identifying sensory details, literary devices & figures of speech, drawing inferences, identifying story elements, visual elements and features, understanding poetry, reading pieces from popular novels, famous literary works, informational texts (nature history and society, India and World news , science, technology, business and people)

Vocabulary and Grammar

Vocabulary : Pre-fixes and suffixes ; etymology /root of words, idioms, homophones, analogies, domain specific vocabulary
Grammar : Sentences/fragments, nouns, pronouns & antecedents, verbs, agreements, tense, articles, adjectives & adverbs, prepositions, direct-indirect objects, modifiers, conjunctions, punctuation, hyphens, commas, colon, semi -colons et

Writing skills : Organizing writing, creating introductions and conclusions, writing opinions , journals, short stories, developing & supporting arguments, writing descriptions and summaries , conducting research , using creative tools in writing, editing and revising

Speaking Skills : Extempore, elocution and recitation, group discussions and debates. Body language and their meanings, using voice modulations for impact & influence. Situational conversations, role-plays and acting
