1. Who is this class for?
This class is for all our Grade 1 Superstars!
If you are curious about words, love listening to stories, and enjoy playing games with your friends, you are in the right place. You don’t need to be an expert reader yet—you just need to have a big imagination!
2. What will we learn in this class?
Have you ever heard a grown-up say something that sounded really weird? Like telling you to "zip your lips" or that a toy costs "an arm and a leg"?
In this class, we become Word Detectives. We will learn that some sentences are like secret codes!
- Drawing Silly Pictures: We will draw what the words sound like (like cats wearing raincoats) and then learn what they actually mean.
- Story Time: We will read short stories and "catch" the hidden idioms hiding in the pages.
- Acting It Out: We will play charades to show our friends what phrases like "feeling under the weather" (feeling sick) look like.
3. Is there anything you need to bring?
To be a great Word Detective, you should bring your Adventure Kit:
- Paper and Bright Colors: We will be drawing a lot of funny pictures, so bring your favorite crayons or markers!
- A "Listening" Cap: Put on your best ears so you can hear the secret phrases.
- One "Mystery Sentence": Ask a parent or a teacher for one funny phrase they know and bring it to class to share with everyone!
