Class Description – Cyber Security Basics (Online Training for Beginners)
This online Cyber Security Basics class is perfect for students, IT professionals, and anyone interested in understanding how to protect digital systems and data from modern threats. No prior experience in cybersecurity is required — the course starts from the fundamentals and gradually builds a strong foundation for advanced learning or certifications like CEH, CompTIA Security+, or CISA.
Students will learn about key cybersecurity concepts such as the CIA Triad, threat types, malware analysis, phishing, firewalls, network security, password policies, encryption basics, and safe online practices. The course also introduces practical tools used in the industry, including Wireshark, Nmap, and vulnerability scanners, demonstrated through live sessions and hands-on labs.
By the end of the course, students will understand how cyberattacks occur, how to identify vulnerabilities, and how to implement basic security controls to mitigate risks.
Students only need a laptop or desktop with at least 8 GB RAM, a stable internet connection, and access to a virtual lab environment (VirtualBox or VMware) for guided practical exercises during the online sessions.
