The English spoken in different parts of India gets imbued with the flavour of the language spoken in that region or state. Many learners translate from their first language/ mother tongue when they try to communicate in English. Many of them are not aware that these structures or word usages are incorrect in English , as they have limited exposure or access to correct English. Not only that, very often their diffidence makes them hesitate to ask others about correct usage , making them repeat the errors .
The path to better and flawless English involves three steps :
- Identifying and becoming aware of why a structure or word usage is wrong
- Understanding how to correct the error
- Practising the new structure or correction till it gets reinforced.
While the errors made by speakers of different languages differ somewhat , there are many common errors too. This session will aim to discuss both common and specific errors we come across in Indian English . It is suitable for elementary and intermediate level students.
Students need to have a pen and notebook to jot down any useful information they may get from the class.
