The course on Criminal Laws in India is structured to provide an in-depth and contemporary understanding of the Indian criminal justice system, with particular emphasis on the newly enacted criminal law framework. Detailed lectures will be delivered on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which have replaced the earlier colonial-era criminal statutes. The course aims to familiarize learners with the substantive, procedural, and evidentiary dimensions of criminal law as they operate in modern India.
Designed primarily for LL.B. students as well as individuals with a keen interest in criminal law, the course adopts a rigorous yet accessible pedagogical approach. It covers foundational principles of criminal liability, classification of offences, procedural safeguards, investigation and trial processes, and rules governing the appreciation of evidence.
Each lecture will be followed by a dedicated doubt-clearing and interactive discussion session, enabling learners to engage critically with the subject matter. This approach ensures conceptual clarity, practical understanding, and analytical competence in criminal law.
