You've seen those AI images online. People type "astronaut riding a horse on Mars" and boom – a picture appears. What if I told you can build that yourself in 2 hours?
Hour 1 – Understanding AI Image APIs:
Here's the secret: you don't need to build the AI. Companies like Stability AI and Replicate have already done that. They give us APIs – simple tools we can call from our code.
We'll start by signing up for a free account, getting an API key (like a password for the AI), and making our first request. I'll show you:
-
How to talk to the AI using Python or JavaScript
-
What parameters to send (image size, style, etc.)
-
How to handle the response and get the image URL
We'll test it together. Type something weird. See what the AI creates. It's genuinely fun – we'll probably spend extra time just generating random stuff.
Hour 2 – Build a Web Interface:
Now we'll wrap this in a simple website. A text box where users type their prompt. A button that says "Generate". An area that shows the image when it's ready.
We'll make it look decent with Tailwind CSS (I'll give you the classes, no design skills needed). Then deploy it live so your friends can try it.
Who is this for? Anyone curious about AI. Maybe you've used ChatGPT but want to actually build with AI. Basic coding helps but honestly? I've taught 12-year-olds this and they got it.
What you'll leave with: Your own AI image generator. Live website. Friends will bombard you with requests to make "Shrek playing cricket" and "Elon Musk as a potato". You'll be ready.
Bring laptop and wild prompt ideas.
