I will be teaching a small Bharatanatyam choreography specially designed for beginners. This workshop is open to participants of all ages, and no prior dance training is required. The session will begin with an introduction to the origin and theory of Bharatanatyam, helping students understand its cultural and historical background. This will be followed by simple pre-workout and warm-up exercises to prepare the body safely for movement.
Students will be introduced to basic hastas (hand gestures), fundamental movements, and simple adavus, taught in a clear and easy manner. Special attention will be given to basic abhinaya (expression) to help participants connect movement with emotion. The class will conclude with learning a small, beginner-friendly choreography that brings together all the elements taught.
Bharatanatyam is an excellent choice as it improves posture, coordination, rhythm, concentration, and overall physical fitness while also allowing learners to experience the beauty of Indian classical dance and tradition.
