About the Masterclass
The subject will be covered under four headings :
.1. core foundational principles
.2. palpable bony landmarks
.3. vital organ projections
.4. clinical application points across all major body regions.
.1.. Core Examination Techniques
* Visual inspection: Observe general body proportions, skin contours, and superficial muscle bulges.
* Palpation: Feel for underlying bones, tendons, and pulses with firm pressure.
* Percussion and auscultation: Tap or listen to evaluate underlying organ borders and sounds (such as heart and breath sounds).
.2.Palpable Bony Landmarks by Region
* Head and neck: Locate the supraorbital notch, zygomatic arch, and the sternocleidomastoid attachments.
* Thorax and back: Identify the jugular notch, sternal angle (of Louis), and spinous processes of the vertebrae.
* Abdomen: Find the xiphisternum, iliac crests, and anterior superior iliac spines (ASIS).
* Upper and lower limbs: Trace the epicondyles of the humerus, styloid processes of the radius/ulna, greater trochanter, patella, and malleoli.
.3. Surface Projections of Deep Organs (Surface Markings)
* Cardiovascular system: Map the four classic heart valve listening posts and major vessel pathways (like the common carotid artery).
* Respiratory system: Outline pleural reflections, lung borders, and the thyroid gland.
* Gastrointestinal system: Project the surface anatomy of the liver, spleen, and McBurney’s point for the appendix.
.4. Clinical and Procedural Correlations
* Teach safe zones for intramuscular injections and lumbar punctures.
* Demonstrate sites for emergency access, arterial pulse checks, and nerve block locations.
