The Psychopathology class provides a comprehensive understanding of psychological disorders, their nature, causes, and impact on individuals and society. The course introduces students to the classification and diagnosis of mental disorders, with reference to the DSM and ICD frameworks. Key topics include anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive conditions, trauma-related disorders, and substance-use disorders. Emphasis is placed on exploring the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of psychopathology. Students will examine theoretical perspectives, including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and biopsychosocial approaches, while also gaining insight into the stigma and cultural aspects of mental illness. The course integrates case studies, research findings, and clinical applications to help learners connect theory with practice. By the end of the class, students will be able to identify key features of major psychological disorders, critically analyze their causes, and appreciate evidence-based approaches to prevention and treatment.
