Methodology:

The main objective of the course is to develop an autonomous command in the German language. The course is fundamentally structured to be interactive. Any form of communication inside the class room will strictly be in the target language. There will be recreation of real-time situations and role play games to develop confidence and a feeling for the language among the course participants. Students have the opportunity to use the language verbally, within the limits of the grammar according to the level.

Each topic or module goes through 4 steps of teaching techniques.

1. Introduction

1. There will be a brief introduction of the topic from the trainer’s end using visual aids, real-time examples from the participants, Q&A etc. 

2. The second objective is to associate the topic with the real world and let participants recollect what they already know about it from the past using assoziogramm, group discussions etc.

2. Grammar

Participants learn a specific grammatical construction related to the topic to communicate easily and structurally without thinking too much about the sentence formation. Grammatical tables, logics, patterns etc. are either introduced using interactive PPT’s or will be made by the students itself using board games, puzzles and written exercises to develop their in-depth understanding of the construction and its application.

3. Verbal application

Participants are given a set of questions or are asked to create a card of questions related to the topic within the limits of the grammar which they just acquired. They will be given pattern sentences or clues in form of puzzles to frame their questions. The questions are asked to each other by passing a ball or rolling a dice.

4. Production

Participants are asked to make groups and are given topics, where they frame similar sentences like in step 3 and write about certain topics related to the main topic. For example, if they’re learning about kitchen utensils, they’ll be asked to write a recipe, plan a party etc. This is the phase where they experiment with the knowledge they’ve acquired. There will also be simulations of real-time situations where they could be using such sentences. For example: in a bank when they want to request for services, formal/informal telephonic conversations, for reserving a hotel room, fixing a doctor’s appointment or plan an outing with a friend.

Outcome: Can understand sentences and commonly used expressions associated with topics directly related to his/her direct circumstances (e.g. personal information or information about his/her family, shopping, work, immediate surroundings). Can make him/herself understood in simple, routine situations dealing with a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and common topics. Can describe his/her background and education, immediate surroundings and other things associated with immediate needs in a simple way.
