Why students struggle:
Mathematics is nothing but understanding nature and representing it in the form of numbers, signs and formulas.
Every child enjoys learning and playing with nature. Be it running, clapping, playing with mud or anything we can think of but then why most of the children struggle in Math’s if it’s nothing but the representation of nature.
It’s because the way books and teaching has been designed. We just tell kids a formula to cram and give them questions to solve. Open any chapter of any book on Math’s, there would 2-3 pages full of formulas, properties to be crammed without much detailed explanations but about 10 pages of practice questions/problems along with their solutions. But tell me how a student can practice properly without understanding the basics properly.
A coach should explain, help understand the concepts and clear the doubts. Unfortunately very less efforts and time is spent on explaining the Math’s, the nature and the logic to the children and most of the time is spent in just solving the questions without understanding the basics; be it in the class, tuition or crash course. Then we question why the student is still struggling after so much practice. Well (s)he will struggle and continue to struggle because concept and basics are weak.
