# NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths, Chapter 8 - Introduction to Trigonometry

Introduction to Trigonometry Class 10

“There is perhaps nothing which so occupies the middle position of mathematics as trigonometry.” – J.F Herbart. The branch of mathematics that studies the relationship between angles of triangles and side lengths is trigonometry. We use this mathematical study when we want to find the distance or height. It is derived from the Greek word ‘trigon’ and ‘metron’, which mean, ‘triangle’ and  ‘measure’, respectively.

Astronomers in the earlier times used trigonometry to find out the distance between the planets and stars from the earth. In the modern world, technologically advanced physical sciences and engineering concepts use trigonometrical concepts. Here in this chapter, we will learn solutions for Trigonometry questions for Class 10.

In Trigonometry Class 10, we study:

Trigonometric ratios: The ratio of the side of the right triangle with respect to its acute angle.

Trigonometric identities: Calculations of trigonometric ratios for specific angles and establishing identities involving the ratios.

Lets us take a look at the topics and sub-topics of Introduction to Trigonometry Class 10:

8.1 Introduction

8.2 Trigonometric Ratios

8.3 Trigonometric Ratios of Some Specific Angles

8.4 Trigonometric Ratios of Complementary Angles

8.5 Trigonometric Identities

8.6 Summary

Aryabhata, the Indian mathematician was the one, who first introduced the concept of ‘sine’ to the world in 500 A.D.
