Nelson Mandela is a worldwide known figure for his work against apartheid in South Africa for almost half his life. Nelson Mandela was the first non-white head of the state and was the president of the country from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela’s autobiography named, “Long Walks to Freedom” that was released in 1994 and profiles his early life, was published by Little Brown & Co.

The book recounts from his early days, coming of age, the twenty-seven years he spent in prison to his fight against apartheid and his accession to power as the head of the state of South Africa. The book sold many copies and has been translated from English to innumerable languages. Long Walk to Freedom was adapted in a cinema with Idris Elba in the titular role as Mandela. The movie was titled Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. It was directed by Justin Chadwick and was written by William Nicholson. The book also won the Alan Paton Award in 1995.
