Drawing pencils and colored pencils serve different purposes in artwork. Drawing pencils, like the ones you use for sketching and shading, typically have graphite leads that produce varying shades of gray or black. They are great for creating detailed line work, shading, and realistic drawings. On the other hand, colored pencils contain pigment cores that come in a wide range of colors. These pencils are perfect for adding color to your artwork, whether it's simple coloring or intricate details. Colored pencils allow for layering and blending to create rich, vibrant hues and textures in your drawings. So, while drawing pencils are mainly used for monochromatic artwork and shading, colored pencils offer a rainbow of colors to bring your creations to life with beautiful and vivid tones. read less

Well, graphite is more erasable, and doesn't really go as dark as you can go with colored pencils, graphite isn't black. So those are differences, they also don't mix well, as graphite is slippery, and can smear esp. If you mix with wax based colored pencils.
