Atharva Bhede

I am a competitive chess player with 15+ years of experience, playing since the age of 7, and a FIDE rating of 1737 in Classical chess. I am a National-level DSO Gold Medalist and have extensive experience competing in State and National-level tournaments.

My teaching approach is practical and student-focused. I believe students improve fastest when they understand why a move works rather than simply memorizing openings or patterns. I use the student's own games to identify weaknesses and then build lessons around those areas, combining game analysis, tactical exercises, strategic concepts, opening principles, and practical positions.

I adapt my teaching to the student's current level and learning pace. For beginners, I focus on developing strong fundamentals, board awareness, tactical patterns, and good thinking habits. For more experienced players, I focus more on calculation, positional understanding, opening preparation, and analysing their games to identify recurring mistakes.

I also have several years of experience mentoring students and teammates, including leading a college coding club and mentoring students in technical labs. This has helped me develop a patient and structured approach to explaining concepts and working with students of different experience levels.

My goal is not just to help students win individual games, but to help them develop the ability to analyze positions and make better decisions independently.
