The Spanish School is the brainchild of Anu Dalmia, a World Bank consultant for many years. She has a love for languages and wanted to pursue Spanish as a hobby when she moved to Mumbai. Much to her disappointment, she couldn’t locate an institute for learning Spanish in the whole of South Mumbai. Years later on a sabbatical from work, she chanced upon a Spanish teacher who taught her Spanish for a year.A one year sojourn with this beautiful language and an enthusiastic and supportive family gave birth to the idea of a new language school in South Mumbai - The Spanish School @ Fort – an institute of international standards which would give lessons in Spanish to kids and adults. It would also be a center for understanding and celebrating Spanish culture. Started in February 2012, it was the first institute of it’s kind. It opened its doors to anyone who wanted to learn this beautiful language: right from little 4 year olds to octogenarians. They believe anyone can learn anything, if only they have the willingness to explore something new and then continue with it with dedicated perseverance.
In the past 4 years they have received more than 5000 direct enquiries and have accomplished more than 1100 enrolments and all this with no market research or marketing and advertising activities whatsoever but purely by word of mouth.
We’ve worked with teachers from across the world – from Maharashtra (aamchi Mumbai), from South and North India, from mainland Spain, from the Canary Islands, from the US and from South America. Our program team is constantly researching – new methods, new tools, new curriculums (with ideas from teachers across the U.S, China and Europe) and studying effectiveness of methods adopted.
